I like looking at Phyllis Coates as Lois Lane, but not listening to her. Being tough is one thing, but to do it without an ounce of humor makes her pretty grim. The 1940s Lois was a tough babe except when Superman was around. Then she turned into a lovesick horn toad. But the television series eliminated the romantic triangle of Clark loves Lois/Lois treats Clark with contempt/Lois loves Superman/ Superman treats Lois with disdain, and without that you had a one dimensional, bitchy Lois. Noel Neil fit the television series better. With that low voice she still seemed tough enough, but was amused by Clark's aversion to danger, not sneeringly nasty like Phyllis.
