J from Passaic - I gotcha buddy, I know. I mean those early ones that we had heard of but had never really seen much of. The monster films from several studios, mostly Universal.

Just for example, most of us have seen all those classic Warner Bros Gangster films like Little Ceasar and Angels with Dirty Faces. But if you go and check out some of the more obscure lesser known ones like say Picture Snatcher with Jimmy Cagney it practically crackles with energy. It moves.

But many of these titles creep along with an atmostphere that isn't always as out and out monster styled. Yes, some like ersatz film noirs, turn out to be just plain bad melodrama. However there are many that I am finding to be very rewarding. My thought was that you had to be an adult to dig them and that you would not have connected with these as a kid very much at all. The Black cat is a very strange film. You just can't go from The Wolfman to Bride of Frankenstein to that very easily... or can you? They are almost like some of the later day Lewtons. As a kid I had no patience for them but now I love the Ghost Ship and Leopard Man.
