I spent a half hour with Sid Fields backstage of The Jackie Gleason Show in NYC sometime early 60's.
One of my blue eyes has just turned green with envy. Now , if you say you also met Gleason , I'll have a matching set.

Back in the seventies , someone I know , got Field's address and wrote him requesting an interview. Sadly , he received a reply from a relative saying that Sid had just passed away.

Well my dear "green eyed" friend, I certainly did meet Mr. Gleason too! I was a school mate of writer Marvin Marx's son. That's how I ended up on the show. Literally. Reginald Van Gleason III walked down the audience aisle and pretended to whack me and another little guy with his cane during the taping. Also hung out with Frankie Fontaine, and actress/dancer Elizabeth Allen. I was 9 or 10 years old and the experience floored me!

Meeting The Great One and Sidney Fields ...! Hanging around with Marvin Marx's son ! Holy Smoke ! What a lucky kid you were !
