Radioactive sugar is apparently very useful in tracing veins during a PET scan. I was surprised they used sugar as a base and thot it was a pity to let something like that go to waste.
Blood sugar = glucose. Not the same thing as table sugar, and glucose actually tastes pretty yucky if imbibed in a solution. Fludeoxyglucose is a radioactive form of glucose; goes wherever regular old glucose goes when carried by the blood, and its radioactivity allows it to be traced by a PET scan.
