Anyone else remember FX/RH, the relatively short-lived (1971-73) journal of All Things Harryhausen produced by Sam Calvin and Ernest Farino (who recently published the first book in his monumental three-volume series Ray Harryhausen: Master of the Majicks)? The magazine obviously had a highly specialised focus -- the animation and visual effects created by Mr. Harryahusen. But, by God, in its four-issue run Calvin and Farino produced one of the most well-written, comprehensively researched and fulsomely illustrated fan journals ever published. Not bad for two teenagers operating out of Texas who were entirely dependent on snail mail and the occasional long-distance phone call for the bulk of their meticulous research. Believe Ernie plans to repackage the content of the four issues (along with some new material) into a sort of hard-back supplement to the Master of the Majicks series. Can't wait!
