I did compare the GoodTimes tape(s) to the DVD of the 1943 serial, prior to giving the tapes to a buddy who's using his VCR more than I am, and the sound and picture indicate different prints were used for the DVD. As long ago as it's been since the GoodTimes release of both serials (and the second serial was given a VHS release from Columbia since then), who knows what may have happened to the source material they used. I've seen 16mm and Super 8 prints of the serial circulate among collectors since the 1970s, and even those formats differed from each other. (Columbia put out the Super 8 version, I forget where the 16mm prints came from.) Some chapters (or even brief snippets) look as if the serial had to be pieced together in certain spots. Overall, though, this is much closer to the original release version than most of us have seen.
