The Monica character bothered me somewhat, but it seems to me she's kind of a PARODY of amateur psychologists, partly the well-meaning kind and partly the just plain pushy kind. So now I think any irritating quality of hers is intentional, yes.
There's one line that I'm a little surprised made it past the censors. When her brother (played by Jessie White) mentions her long history with analysis, he says "She's been spread out on couches over three continents."
