Rondo Hatton supposedly got HIS via exposure to poison gas, or something, during World War I.

I think the gas was said to have triggered the disease (or disorder or whatever it is), but was not the root cause of it. I guess it's like a pesticide and a radio-active mist mixing at the right time in the right person to create an undesirable effect on the human body.

As for THE MONSTER MAKER, sure, it's not scientifically acurate, but how many horror and sci-fi films are? You just have to believe Dr. Naish found a way to give Morgan acromegaly and go with it. BTW, I think it's a very well-made little film. I actually find it a little unpleasant to watch because of the potential reality of the situation. The thought of a doctor intentionally giving someone a terrible disfiguring disease is somehow more disturbing than turning someone into a werewolf or zombie or some other fantastic creation.
