I don't think Lil got a raw deal, Carl. She has a great voice and great things were expected from her with Motown. And, Heatwave is one of the few times I've actually been able to match a song with a contestant. Like I said, I had told Cheryle that Lil should sing Heatwave. Then when Ryan teased her song before going to commercial he said she was going to "heat things up." Like a couple of weeks ago when I said that a contestant didn't punch the hook on Tears of Jupiter, Lil was proficient with the song and hit the notes, but she was never "in the pocket" with it. Matt was in the pocket. Allison was in the pocket. I even think Danny was in the pocket. It's hard to explain what that means, but it's when the singer and the music and the performance all just blend together effortlessly. The example of this from last season that sticks out in my mind was the night that Chekezie sang I Just Saw a Face on Beatles night. He grabbed that song by the throat and never let it go.

Having said that, I wish I could do what Megan did, let alone what Lil did. Being an armchair quarterback is a bit much when you're as tone deaf as I am.

Adam's pop occurred right out of the gate with "People say I'm the life of the party." People, not party.

Looking forward to seeing the group number and Smokey tonight!
