First of all, no one seemed to have given any thought to (Superman's) costume-- blue, for crying out loud. Duh! So you had composites where pieces of him disappeared. The blue-screen fly-bys in the original version of the film had to practically make him green-gray to keep the image together.
Well, I'm sure they "gave some thought" to it, but was it their fault their character's costume was the same color as the industry's matte compositing screen? Correct me if I'm wrong, but a green screen wasn't an option at that time.

That having been said, I agree the FX work in the orig. Superman ain't the greatest. In addition to the flying stuff, some of the miniatures are poor.

A special mention for William Munns who did those absolutely dreadful monster suits for SWAMP THING (just what the hell is that last monster, the Gillman wearing a dimestore boar mask?)

Absolutely agree
! Some of the worst monster costumes in a modern, mainstream movie. Craven should have realized they were crap and had the guy replaced.

Hmm -- what's so bad about Darth Maul's makeup?

I agree with you about the creatures in Jedi, though. They needed a first-class creature designer like Ron Cobb. Not a one of 'em I can get enthused about (though the Gamorean guards are kinda neat). Ironic that, when Jedi first came out, Lucas said he'd "finally gotten the bar scene right", then went on to totally revamp it for the CGI-revamped re-release. Guess he didn't get it quite as "right" as he'd thought.
