Gave the film a watch today. Definitely one of my favorites in the series and my opinion of this film has only risen. It's one of the most underrated Godzilla films and demands rediscovery.

Nakano's FX footage is mostly dazzling, the Cold War allusions are great and lend the film a nice feel of dread throughout and Koroku's score is gorgeous in a way different from Ifukube's. I still think the human plot could have used more punch and Hashimoto overuses the zoom lens a bit (but who didn't back then). It saddens me at how far South the Heisei series went after Biollante and King Ghidorah.
