Of course, if we want to talk about stories we'd like to make into films...

"A Walk In the Sun" was a damned good story. About a female astronaut who crash lands on the moon, and has to keep walking ahead of the moon's night side, in order to keep her space suit powered up while she awaits rescue... Written by the same guy who wront "Mars Crossing."

Phillip Wylie's "The Disappearance"... where God steps in and splits all the men on Earth into one universe, and all the women into another... as we see which sex is better off, stronger, and more capable than the other.

Greg Bear's "Blood Music"... intelligent micro-organisims, who spread like the flu... and decide to redesign mankind from the inside out...

"Tau Zero"... the story of an interstellar ramjet starship that becomes damaged when it passes through a dust cloud.... and can't shut down... it eventually attains 99.999999% of the speed of light, and rides the universe out through the big crunch and into the next big bang...
