Alzheimer's can progress at different rates and in fits and starts. My father had a pretty good year or so last year with very little progression, now he doesn't recognize my mother as his wife (he knows he's married to a woman named Betty but apparently is thinking of her as she was 40 years ago). Another family friend who came down with Alzheimer's lost his memory very, very rapidly and was often quite agitated about it (my dad seems to be placid about his condition, which so far has been a good thing).

My father has taken to shooing non-existent cats out of the house, apparently remembering a house we lived in 30 years ago. It's possible Gagne flashed back to an old match; I doubt if charges will be pressed against him.
