I wish this was in better quality on DVD (I've got a mint 35mm available if any entrepreneurs are out there).� The Alpha DVD came from an old Something Weird or Sinister Cinema VHS and is really lacking (right down to the out of frame splice at the climax).� There's a German DVD available with the color opening, but unfortunately no subs.

It's too bad Brauner didn't produce more Bryan Edgar Wallace films-- the few that he did are stunning, in black and white and Totalscope.� The cinematography by Richard Angst is really inventive and breaks a lot of static shots (there's an opening scene where the camera does a 360 around two detectives talking).

Also, I think it's interesting that based on the trailer, they were originally going to show the Phantom's garb, and decided not to until the end of the picture:
