Richard Franklin's LINK (1986) with Terence Stamp
The thing is - although Link is supposed to be a chimp he's actually played by an orangutan.

Isn't this a direct violation of Ape Law?

Besides, the whole concept of a killer chimpanzee is ridiculous! Every movie fan knows chimpanzee are cute little clowns who like to turn flips and wear funny outfits, and gorillas are bloodthirsty killers who lust after our white women.

Orangutans were invented in the 1970's by Clint Eastwood. They enjoy bathroom humor and petty larceny.
