I'm not being condescending. On the contrary, you, who claims a cavernous difference between the format speeds are probably doing exactly that, implicit to me being less of a 'purist' than you and incapable of perceiving the starkly obvious, etc. It's true: I am not an orthodox purist. But at the same time, being a purist involves realising both these formats have pretty serious problems. No one's a purist here, apparently.

Let's repeat and dissect your statement:

'In the region 1 edition of Hard Times, James Coburn shouts "Hey wait a minute! I want to talk to you!" In the region 2 editon, he shouts ""Heywaitaminute!Iwanttotalktoyou!"'

Okay. I think that sentence probably takes nearer to two seconds to say, but let's be generous and stick to three seconds. I was also being generous when I said your claims makes the speedup about four times greater than reality -- in truth it's prolly more like ten times. But let's stick to facts...

PAL speedup is 4%. Not 50%, not 25%, not even 10%. Can't get around it. 4% is 4%, at the risk of sounding like Ayn Rand.

What's 4% of three seconds? Wanna check? Grab the calculator.

It's 0.12 seconds.

That's slightly more than one tenth of a second.

Three seconds minus 4% is 2.88 seconds.

That's slightly less (two-hundredths of a second less) than two and nine-tenths of a second.

Clearly you are describing a difference of significantly more than one tenth of a second. And that's why I believe you are projecting into this. You could give this some thought; or you could just dig your heels in and make more claims that break the law of physics. I wouldn't even take issue with someone saying, 'the speedups's very, very slight, but I'm very sensitive and it's annoys me anyway.' But, these 'helium' comments and stuff like the above quote -- are just not constructive at all, and misleading to people who don't 'get' this issue so well.

You didn't push any buttons! I thought it was a bit of a cheap comment. I didn't accuse you of whining like a girl in the face of logic, did I? You are showing your age a bit too much to say that about a Wimmins with a viewpoint, tho.
