I'd point anyone to my Suspiria comparison in the foreign horror folder for an indication as to how much difference this PAL speedup thing causes on identical source elements (hint: the one guess that was offered on which was which was WRONG). These helium comments are awfully silly... I mean that I've heard this said SO many times, and I think from people who have never closely analysed the real-time difference involved in 4%... it reminds me a bit of complaints over 'inadequacy' of dynamic range on CD audio which (subject to quality of mastering) involves frequencies that are pretty much outside of normal human hearing range (dogs and werewolves, not so much). This is more tangible, of course. Just not much more. It's like a speedup of 2.5 seconds (approx) for every MINUTE of running time. If it was 2.5 seconds for every ten, that'd be pretty obvious.

I've got the half-hour eps in PAL and the hour ones in NTSC. Sounds like Patrick McGoohan in all of 'em, to me.

OTOH, what with this pull-down thing (faking approx 30fps into approx 24fps), that causes a VERY slight judder on scrolling and panning (even noticed? You have to really look for it), and lower resolution, NTSC has its problems too. I'm sold on HD as far as escaping all such pitfalls, tbh. If only I had the dough!

But, anyhoo, I love this show!
