As I recall, when this aired even Bob Costas, who was supposed to be promoting it during a sporting event earlier in the evening, mocked it, saying something like "Thrill to the sight of a woman transforming into a white dog" with a perceptable tinge of sarcasm in his voice.

I will say one thing, this film did present an interesting "cure" for lycanthropy. For those of you fortunate enough not to have seen it, [SPOILER ALERT!] when the female werewolf is shot (I think she was shot) with a silver bullet (I think it was silver -- hey, it's been a while) the hero takes her, while she's still in wolf form and dying, to the local hospital. He then waits until she "dies" and then, like at the end of all proper werewolf movies, she transforms back to human form. Well, that means the curse is lifted, her thorny walk is over, etc etc, so at that point he has the hospital staff perform their patented heroic measures with electric paddles et all to "bring her back to life" -- which they do and, ta-da, sans lycanthropy! (I forget exactly what happened with the bullet; I guess it got pulled out somewhere during the heroic measures.)

Hey, if Curt Siodmak's allowed to make stuff up ...
