I agree with the general consensus here on TOWER OF LONDON. Like most of the big movies of the era, it has impressive sets and custumes, a top musical score, and a solid supporting cast. Rathbone was born to play Richard and Karloff and Price are wonderful in colorful featured roles. Ian Hunter, often a placid actor, gives the performance of his career as the likable and yet unscrupulous Edward. The first hour or so of the movie is first rate, but after Price and Hunter die, the focus shifts to the very uninteresting John Sutton, the blandest of bland heroes, and the one-dimensional queen. None of the female characters are at all interesting. Fortunately, the murder of the two princes and the final battle allows the movie to rally at the end.

There are several memorable scenes--the execution at the beginning, the drowning of Clarence, the murder of the princes, but my favorite was when Lionel Belmore and Leo G Carroll inform the King of Clarence's death, news greeted by the King with utter indifference before he orders the bells not be rung until the morning, while rolling over and going back to sleep. By the way, I thought Belmore had a hoot of a role. He seemed only to appear to sadly announce the latest murder.
