In seven short years Karloff went from Morgan in The Old Dark House to Mord in Tower Of London. Different films, fa' sher, good examples of how much Universal had changed under different management.
I don't quite follow your argument. Mord seems to me the better role. THE OLD DARK HOUSE is, in my judgement and I assume most others, the better film, but TOWER OF LONDON is certainly a respectable effort on a much larger scale. Am I missing your point? I would be interested if you would elaborate. The Laemmles made big historical spectacles such as THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME and THE MAN WHO LAUGHS with grotesque or horror undertones, a tradition which TOWER OF LONDON falls solidly within.
