I did know Dave slightly -- he was a genuinely great guy. Not a saint or anything, mind you (it's too easy to romanticize the dead) but he was warm, friendly, witty, generous. A total charmer and great-looking too -- girls couldn't get enough of him. Of course, he was a MAJOR talent. I became an instant fan when his first Rocketeer strip was published. And would anybody remember Bettie Page these days if Dave hadn't brought her back to our attention?

Tragic that he died so young, but from what I've heard through mutual friends, the constant meds and chemo treatments he was taking for the cancer were making him so miserable, death was actually a relief at the end. Still, selfishly, I miss him.

As for the book, I haven't seen it yet, but will snap it up instantly when I do.
