It is a moment to take justifiable pride in The American Experiment.

It was mentioned by a talking head this morning that this is not only the first such election in America - but one of the first in ANY of the "mature" democracies. It is sadly rare even at this late date, to see a member of an ethnic majority take the top spot. And this acheivement is all the richer because of Barack Obama's own richly mixed heritage, which is truly "representative" of the United States of America.

I was struck by Obama's many Lincoln references; I think somewhere, he smiles. I also felt a palpable "1960/Jack Kennedy" vibe over the last few days.

But make no mistake: the road ahead is VERY, VERY rough.

Pray without ceasing.
