... and then I found out the region 2 edition by Network comes with tons of extras that aren't on the A&E set plus a detailed history of the series and episode guide in the form of a full-length book. Damn.

Jones was in the novel by Alistair MacLean, who like McGoohan was a Scott, and which preceded the series, but I might agree that McGoohan's casting as Jones in Ice Station Zebra was meant to tantalize us while The Prisoner was airing for the first time in the USA. A shame McGoohan didn't use the film to launch the danger man into feature films in the 1970s.
