My particular least favorites are the ones for the remastered, restored Sherlock Holmes series with Rathbone & Bruce. Made a very expensive set look like something from the dollar store.

I thought exactly the same. They all had a PD look to them. I half expected to see Goodtimes on the back.
I just posted on a similar thread about the covers that I detest the most.

Talk about garish. A simple photo of Cushing looking at a skull would have been much better. This looks amateurish, at best.

People often talk about salivating over stills of "London After Midnight" in the old FMOF. I also salivated over the stills and paintings of Karloff from "The Ghoul". When I was finally able to see the film, I wasn't disapointed (and this was that awful Czech print with the subtitles blacked out at the bottom). I was ecstatic when a good print was discovered in the UK. One day, I was standing at the check out at Best Buy and I saw this nondesript DVD with a greenish hue and an eye staring at me from the end of the cash wrap. I saw the title and naturally assumed it was the Cushing film of the same title or possibly a new film that also shared the title. After all, if Karloff's "The Ghoul" were to get a studio DVD release I would have heard about it and the cover would certainly not look anything like that. But, i was waiting in line so I picked it up. What a shock! What a lousy cover!
