Alright then, Jeff -

"M. Night Shyamalan"
Another eccentric writer-director?

Singer's got no pretensions toward Auteurship (well, no more than any young filmmaker who hopes one day to get his legitimizing SCHINDLER moment) - he's Dick Donner, maybe Dick Donner with Bill Friedkin's 'feistiness' (though I'll bet he's nowhere near the sumbitch Friedkin apparently was at his most hubristic).

Now, if this thing tanks (and, however it does financially, I'll just betcha the film itself turns out fine - likely a little facile, but certainly competent) I don't think you could even equate it to Friedkin's SORCERER, and certainly Singer's savvy enough to retreat into a safe commercial project, rather than follow it up with an odd duck like THE BRINK'S JOB, and a career-killer like CRUISING.
