Actors grow older and not as hungry too. Once you establish that Lee is Dracula, that is about the time he startes grumbling
that he doesn't want to do it anymore. And the eternally youthful Count starts showing his age and his grey.

Plus don't get me started on how bad A.D. 1972 and Satanic Rites modern day stories were handled. I think as time goes on, it just got to be less and less special for all the film makers involved so they put less into it. Their bellys were fed and they stopped caring.
