I did not find the monsters in A&CMF "bufoonish dupes". They were played straight and were as scary as ever. That's not what I take away from that film at all. I also don't think A&CMF is anywhere near the silly Scary Movie in tone. That's an insult to A&CMF.

My post said "The closest modern equivalent being SCARY MOVIE". It didn't say it was as gawdaful stupid as Scary Movie. Those two comments are two distinctly different things.

But if you can't find a more accurate "The closest modern equivalent being SCARY MOVIE" then by all means state it.

That is the thing I love about this board, one person misconstrues something and the next page of posts takes the bad assumption as gospel. image

BUt yet, I'll stick by the comment of them being buffonish dupes. The monsters were not played all that seriously when you see them doing lots of dumb lunging and missing, tripping over things, ducking out of sight instead of attacking, and letting dumb pudgy comedians sit on their lap. If you go back and watch the movie, just start adding up the gooberisms. This isn't a secred cow, this was a movie played for laughs.

As for the giant step backwards for Universal comments earlier, in there eyes the Monsters were as much a part of the past as The Keystone Cops. Example, what do you think they were doing when they had A&C also Meet The Keystone Cops?

"Sure, we might as well let those limeys make Frankenstein and Dracula movies... WE sure don't want to make them any more. But if we see any chance of a buck being made, we'll do a negative pick-up"
