True, Craig. I'd forgotten about the pre-Shock Theater reissues of the Uni horrors (and other old films as well). Those films were still in the "public consciousness" in the 50's. One of my earliest memories of going to the movies is of seeing a trailer for a reissue of the 1931 Franlenstein (coming to a theater near me!), and that must have been circa 1959-60. I never did see it in the theater (still haven't) but I sure remember the coming attractions for it. King Kong is another that was still making the rounds till not that long before the RKO library was released to television stations. Kids growing up in the 40's through the early 50's were probably aware of that one, many had seen it in the theaters, so it was in a sense in constant reruns, the words "King Kong" had entered our vocabulary; everyone knew about the giant ape who died falling from the top of the Empire State building. This knowledge wasn't limited to those who had seen the picture first run in 1933.
