This is not gonna be a film you can bring the kiddies to". As I would suspect the same went for those 1940's youngsters too.

I think this is probably true. Chaney's THE WOLF MAN was probably pretty strong, creepy stuff back in 1941. I remember older relatives and neighbors of mine telling me, when I was watching the Universal monster movies as a kid, that films like FRANKENSTEIN scared the heck of out the theater audiences during the original run.

I accept, and expect, an appropriate level of visceral violence in this new werewolf movie. THE EXORCIST knocked down several such taboos at the time, and survives today as possibly the first modern horror classic. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing our Wolf Man being actually terrifying again, as he would be in the real world.
