It was very expensive due to the fact that MOST prints of the film are red, WHEN you can find a print at all. Most were tv prints, which were edited for commercials and such. All prints after 1980 went to lpp(low fade stock), this being one of them.
So everyone thinks I'm a nut, but, I'm a purist and perfectionist by heart, so for me, there was no option besides, IT's BLACK SABBATH!
I purchased it through a dealer of 16mm films THORNHILL ENTERTAINMENT. Some 8 years back or so. I have a friend who is a dvd nut.....claims this and that about dvd superiority but, upon seeing my print of Sabbath, said "wow.....that blows dvd out of the water" and also mentioned how it was a better print than what was used ON the italian version dvd release. It's that flawless. The scene where Boris returns home after the bell tolls....is breath taking. When Boris walks up to the house with his back in black towards us as the fog surrounds him literally make the scene look 3 dimensional. Nothing like film......and boy did BAVA know how to use it as an artform.
