I believe the scene you're talking about is the first time Lansing tries out his brother's
experiment. Both my wife and I gave a small gasp -- unsettling is the right word, because
it's both unexpected and very well done, perhaps the best of the "through things" shots.

Lansing is trying to jam a metal rod through a block of iron, he pushes and pushes and...
very suddenly both the rod and half his hand goes through the block. Lansing's amazement
slowly turning to something painful and scary when he can't immediately pull his hand back
out is a terrific sequence.

I forgot to mention Lee Meriwether. Thanks for the info, Tom. Not just a gorgeous face,
but a fine actor as well. She's mainly responsible for the legitimacy of the 40-minute love
triangle set-up, then fades back a bit as Lansing-as-monster takes over. Imdb features
some recent snaps of her. She's still a stunner.
