THE DEVIL COMMANDS is the darkest and creepiest of the Karloff Columbia mad doctor movies. THE MAN THEY COULD NOT HANG is fun, and they could have made it even better if Boris had been allowed to bump off a few more people in that house. BEFORE I HANG, THE MAN WITH NINE LIVES, and yes THE BOOGIE MAN WILL GET YOU have their entertainment value too. Peter Lorre pretty much steals the show in BOOGIE MAN.

I always have to chuckle during the opening scene in NINE LIVES regarding the restorative/reviving powers of hot coffee. But yeah, the frozen scenery and Karloff and the people-displaced-in-time angle helped a lot.

I happened to watch an episode of THE FLASH last night that involved an arch villain (not Captain Cold, but The Ghost) who went into a cyrogenic sleep in 1955 and revived in 1990. Good fun! And later in the sadly short-lived series, Captain Cold did make an appearance.

Some other "frozen" films come to mind: FROZEN ALIVE, THE FROZEN DEAD, HORROR EXPRESS, ICEMAN, and even HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN with it's monsters-on-ice moments. And then there's Walt Disney...I don't think he was really a monster, but in any case, I doubt that all the hot coffee in the world could bring him back.
