Absolutely. THE BLACK ROOM is way head and shoulders beyond the mad doctor films. For me, MAN THEY COULD NOT HANG and BEFORE I HANG, while not bad, are just too much folks hanging around in big houses. When I think of them, I think of Boris walking across a big room, or I think of people standing talking. In a big room. Had MAN WITH 9 LIVES been set in another big ole house, I probably wouldn't like it nearly as much. The icy setting is what makes it different and more interesting to me. THE DEVIL COMMANDS...I dunno. For years I've been reading that it's underrated, but every time I give it another look, I come away thinking, "no, it's not."
