My neighbor Nick, who's about 17, came over one day because he was bored waiting for his mother to come home from work. I tried to show him a movie (DEATH PROOF), but he was occupied with his cell phone the whole time. He'd leave a voice message for someone, then just stare at his phone (I guess he was txt messaging or reading txt messages), fidgeting, until the ringtone sounded. He'd talk awhile and then repeat the process. And if it isn't the cell phone, it's MySpace. I've seen him and his cousins gathered around the computer for hours, engrossed in some drama that was going on between them and some other MySpacers, laboriously typing out responses to messages and waiting for replies.

I asked him if he'd seen the new DIE HARD movie yet, and he'd never heard of DIE HARD. So things that we may still consider part of the popular culture are already old.

Legend, oh legend, the third wheel legend...always in the way.
