The first time I realized that hipness was passing me by was during my student teaching period in 1972. I was teaching fifth and sixth graders and I asked the class one day, "what's your favorite TV show?" The kids answered in one loud voice, "Scooby-Doo!!!" To which I, a cool 22-year old college man answered, "What's Scooby-Doo?" Any chance I had with those kids went right out the window. Now, of course, I do know what Scooby-Doo is.

The first time I realized that nostalgia was passing me by was when I saw some "Remember When..." kind of thing on TV. They were talking about THE BRADY BUNCH and THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY. Shows which came on the air at just about the time I gave up constant TV-watching. To this day, I know there's a Marsha Brady, but that's about it.

And, back to the original post in this thread, I like to think I'm fairly knowledgable in old-timey pop culture, but I have to admit...I don't really know who or what Plastic Man was. Or is. I've heard the name somewhere or read it, but that's it. I guess it just shows that no one can know everything. Not even me.
