I think the biggest problem with the film (besides the awful creature make-up) is that so little happens during the film. You could probably write a treatment describing the plot in about two sentences. While some people have criticized the effects, for the most part they were better than I expected. The torpedos were every bit as good or better than what we're used to on shows like VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA. Although it would have helped to have had some bubbles superimposed over the dry submarine scenes, I don't think it helps to be too picky about films like this that were not meant to be "authentic" looking.

Perhaps if more events actually happened during the plot it would have been more engaging, as there are a lot of scenes that seem drawn-out to pad the running time. My take on it is we're better off having this film that we can watch from time-to-time when the spirit moves us than to NOT have this film available. The color's great. And Peggy Neal is definitely visually appealing. But that damn Moogy music -- I STILL can't get it out of my brain!
