It just seems he did it out of an intense dislike of Heston (whom he apparently never even met) and his politics.
Clooney stated quite plainly that his dislike of Heston stemmed from Heston's politics. While I stated quite plainly that I didn't agree with many of Heston's views, I managed to not be so crass as Clooney, who took a pot shot at Heston by laughing at his physical affliction, much like a schoolyad bully would do. I'm with Newsom on this one, though, it was as funny line and the beauty of the jab comes from Heston himself, who while in the throes of the onset of that ghastly disease managed to top Clooney with aplomb. Poetic, in my opinion, that that poor old thing could nail the virile young stud with such panach.

You guys have got to start looking at the whole incident and stop pulling one thing out of a confrontation and worrying it like a dog with a bone. Knee jerk reactions cause a lot of crap in this world. Much of this sort of thing could be avoided if you just stuck around to see that Heston was quite capable of taking care of himself by making Clooney look like the jerk he was. One of the reasons I can't help but still like the old goat even though he and I were opposed politically; that and his inherent - dare I say it? - class. Charlton Heston was a gentleman. Clooney is still a punk. Sexy and talented yes, but no suave baby. Not a drop.image
