Just an FYI, but there are a number of films, such as TERROR BENEATH THE SEA and THE X FROM OUTER SPACE, which were made ostensibly for children and not intended as adults fare. It's the number of grim scenes and violent acts which usually puts us off, because such things would never be in a US film aimed at the kiddies. But, many are indeed aimed squarely juvenile set (you should see some of the animated films from that time period, such as THE PHANTOM FLYING SHIP with giant crabs spewing acid foam and melting screaming masses! I kid you not).
As westerners, we sometimes think, "That film is really goofy; are all Japanese films like this?" because we lack the context. Just as the early Godzilla films were made for general audiences, the later films were made strictly for kids, just as Daiei's Gamera films were kid-friendly right from the start. There are a lot of people who can't wrap their heads around the fact that, despite the bare-breasts in the cybernetic operation scene, TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA was made as a Children's Matinee film.
