I never met Mr. Heston, though I did see him in the flesh at Ray Bradbury's star ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard. Over the years, I had the pleasure of speaking/corresponding with his secretary. 'Way back when I had contacted his office to get a quote on someone's passing. May have been Vincet Price's - I don't remember anymore. After some checking on their end, she called me and read a carefully worded quote that Heston had composed and gave permission to run it in Scarlet Street. Now and again I had occassion to contact his office to see if I could get another quote here and there and was always met with courtesy and benign acceptance. I disagreed with many of his views, but then - who doesn't disagree with most other people? You show me someone who agrees with EVERY aspect of another person's views and I'll show you either a liar or someone who is terribly deluded.

My co-worked at Universal, Debbi by name, had a Heston story that I think you'll all enjoy. She'd been in town for maybe a year, and found herself invited to a premiere of something-or-other. Lots of those in LA. Anyway, she found herself sitting right next to Heston. She looked at him, he looked at her and she said, "My God. I'm sitting next to Moses." He didn't miss a beat, smiled at her and said, "You're new in town, aren't you."

I'm sorry he went through this awful illness and am glad he had the opportunity to die at home, I hope peacefully. Very few people are able to do that anymore.
