I have probably mentioned this before, but....
Not sure when it was, probably in the 1960s, but my late friend Bill Rotsler was walking up Vine Street near Hollywood Blvd. when Charlton Heston came out of the department store there. He saw Bill, smiled broadly, advanced on Bill with hand outstretched, and said, "Hello! What are you doing now?" Bill said it was one of the few times in his life that he ever came up with a good response at the right moment: "Being mistaken for someone else," he said. Heston blinked, stepped back, and Bill walked on.
Years later, Heston often contributed to Jack Smith's daily column in the Los Angeles Times, Asked what was his most embarrassing experience, Heston responded that it was the time he came out of a store on Vine Street, was sure he saw an old friend and started for him, while the guy with Heston was saying "Chuck, it's not him." He said the stranger had a funny, polite response, but he was embarrassed all the same.
If that's his MOST embarrassing experience....
