FYI Michael Moore has stated he joined the NRA so he could "influence it by voting" and so he could go to people like Chuck and say, "Don't worry, I'm an NRA member, I won't hose you in my film."
CHuck Heston supported the NRA and ALL civil rights movements -- and he organized events that made much money for the Olympic Shooting team. In the Hollywood that Heston grew up, it was the skeet range, not the coke mirror, that was the common denominator -- Gable, Tracey, Stack, wayne -- all these men were shooters because Hollywood was a shooter's paradise in the 30's, 40's and 50's. They hunted and target shot and occasionally shot a cheating spouse. But Chuck was a straight as he played.

As a side note, I often looked at his work and that of another actor I worked with, Adam West. Very similar heights, builds, looks, voices, but Heston made a right turn into prestige features while Adam's big break came from a TV show that doomed him to circle around the parody for 40 years. I sometimes imagine the roles reversed, and smile at the thought of Heston's deadpan delivery as Bruce Wayne and Adam's Moses. Ahhh... Soon all will be lost except for DVDs and memories...

"May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't."
