Aww, crap...I knew he was in poor health recently, but still. First Widmark, now Heston. Pretty much the last of the giants of the silver screen has passed. We're never to see his like again, unfortunately.

Aside from the films Glen mentioned, Heston starred in so many other classics: BEN HUR, EL CID, THE BIG COUNTRY, MAJOR DUNDEE, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, TOUCH OF EVIL, and THE THREE/FOUR MUSKETEERS, to name just a few. His larger-than-life screen presence was a perfect fit for the widescreen spectacles that he starred in so often in the 50s and 60s, but he was also capable of performances of great subtelty, such as the aging cowpoke in the underrated WILL PENNY.

I know there are many on this board who hated the man for his later-in-life politics, but I personally have no doubt that his rich film legacy will stand the test of time, with new audiences enjoying his films for decades after his NRA spokesman days are long forgotten.

Charlton Heston was a true icon. He shall be missed.
