I've heard Bradbury tell the W.C. Fields story as well. Like Bill said, he may vary and embellish it. When I heard it Fields ignored him while Bradbury begged and pleaded for his autograph. Finally Fields looked down his nose at Bradbury, took the autograph book and pencil, signed his name and handed it back to little Ray. As Bradbury took the book back Fields said, "There, ya' little bastard. Now, are ya' happy?"

A heartwarming tale regardless of the various twists and turns it takes.
