Okay, here's a little sketch showing how I think the photo was probably taken. You can see from the silhouette that his back is arched. It looks like his raised left knee and his belt buckle visible at the top of the silhouette. If he were laying on his stomach that areas would all be flat. The crisp shadow of his right index finder on his collar shows that there is a strong light from the right and slightly below. (This is starting to sound like we're studying the Zapruder film). That would account for the lack of shadow from his shoulders hanging over the platform. Also the horizontal dark area above his left arm would seem to be Chaney's shadow on the surface he's on. If he were right-side-up, that shadow would be in the air and make no sense. Anyway, That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Hey, Rick! Next time they have a photo session with Del Toro in make-up, try to get them to take one of him on his back in this pose. How cool would that be?!
