Kudos for the write-up, David. Frankly, the way Marvel undid the marriage (and a lot of other stuff) is really the lazy way out. Maybe the marriage was a bad idea, but they did it and should have had the imagination to develop stories incorporating it. Instead of undoing a lot of continuity, if the marriage was really hurting the character, why not just have them divorce or (gasp!) kill off Mary Jane as a consequence to Peter revealing his identity? (I know that's another "lazy way out" but it is more plausible than the angle used.)
