You beat me to it, Rick so I'd like to second that nomination of Walt Lee for the Monster Kid Hall of Fame.

Imagine someone back in the early 1970's attempting to catalog and provide credits for every single horror, science fiction and fantasy film produced up until that point. Picture someone researching that data for years and years without the aid of a computer, compiling his findings on hand-written note cards for over 20,000 movie titles and then self-publishing his work (with the able assistance of a tireless Bill Warren) to critical acclaim.

Well, there's no need to imagine it. That was Walt Lee's pioneering achievement and his 3 volume set: Reference Guide to Fantastic Films, first published in 1974, is still the gold standard by which all other genre reference works are measured. As one of our esteemed members stated on another thread:

When I hear about some super-obscure oldie (a silent, for instance) that might be horror/fantasy/whatever, I always reach for the Walt Lee. If it's not in there, I usually don't even look anywhere else. I've used those three volumes so much, the bindings are shot.

Walt Lee is still around, last seen at his friend, Forry Ackerman's 91st birthday party. In lieu of his accomplishments, I think Walt deserves to be right by Forry's side again... in the Monster Kid Hall of Fame.
