Sometimes it seems that if you had, say, three different projectionists each arranging the framing of a certain movie, they'd each be at least a bit different.


In theory, no. Before your show, you run a test loop through first.

Now, if you weren't using a loop, then in framing up and down, perhaps. However, most projectionists who have done it long enough know how to frame a picture. I would say from personal experience that if you compared three old timers, the margin of error between the three would be 5%. Horizontally, however... no (unless your plate is undercut, which again, a framing loop should tell you.)

Maybe we need to chip in and get some of these guys SMPTE loops?
