SPOILER WARNING

Well, that was one of the stupidest, most bone-headed stunts Marvel has ever pulled. Puh-lease!

First of all, Mephisto does not have that level of power, to alter reality on such a huge scale. Once again they show a lack of understanding of their own characters.

Second, the Civil War idiocy is simply a Marvel shot at Bush and the Patriot Act. Not to get into politics, and regardless of how I feel on the matter, it's just poor writing when you have to turn to modern politics to formulate an escapist comic book plot. Either that, or it's political commentary (which also has no place in comics), or it's simply pandering to the anti-war crowd. Not sure which is the motivating factor, but any of them are reprehensible.

Third, the idea of Spiderman revealing his secret identity to the entire world is utter idiocy. It violates the most basic premise of comic book superheroes...the idea that if the villains know who you are, they'll attack your loved ones. For Spidey to do that is just crappy writing, period.

Fourth, yet another story where Aunt May suffers for Peter's mistakes? Hasn't that been done to death for like a hundred years now? Come on! Did they turn Peter mentally retarded too? Because nobody with his amount of intelligence could not have foreseen the result of revealing his identity to the entire freaking world.

Fifth, why didn't Kingpin use his brains and simply kidnap Aunt May and hold her hostage? Spidey can't do anything if Aunt May's life is at stake. There are any number of better ways of getting to Peter/Spidey than sending an assassin to his apartment, considering his spider-sense and all that. Good lord, those writers suck!

Sixth, the Sorcerer Supreme can't fix a bullet wound? The greatest scientists and medical experts on earth, who have healed more serious injuries in characters such as Vision, Yellowjacket, and others are also helpless? Seems like a ridiculously convenient plot element that boggles the mind in its incredibility and its ability to destroy suspension of disbelief.

I will agree with you on one thing. The "soap opera" comment. It reads like a poorly written daytime soap opera. How much are they charging for that dreck? It's awfully expensive toilet paper, that I will say!

Marvel has no good writers. They use and abuse their characters with no respect or understanding of the essence of the characters. They treat them like cheap Silly Putty characters, changing and warping them every year or so in order to correct idiotic mistakes they made the previous year, while going on to even greater levels of idiocy. Comics today are literally not worth anything outside of toilet paper.
