Actually, while you may disagree with the premise, it is written quite beautifully and smartly. What's fascinating to me is the decision to do it. Editor Joe Quesada, with some justification, says he did it for the good of the character over the next 20-30 years.

Obviously many find this reboot a betrayal of two decades of storytelling -- let alone CIVIL WAR. But I've read Marvel since Spider-Man's first appearances, and would have to say that writer J. Michael Straczynski has done many controversial things, but he hardly lacks imagination or writing skills. It was quite powerful, even as I groaned at the immense leap it was taking.
