I flipped through the Spidey-reboot finale in a bookstore over the weekend. News of what was going to happen had been all over the Internet for weeks (another major obstacle for comics -- how to surprise readers who want to know everything ahead of time), so I wasn't too shocked by what I saw. I guess it makes sense to hit the reset button on this particular situation, but it does supply further ammunition for the "illusion of change" faction over the fans of "real" change. Usually, everything goes back to the status quo eventually.

On a slightly different tangent, the "anybody can be a Skrull" concept gives Marvel a back door out of any ill-conceived (or poorly selling) situation, doesn't it? But it makes it hard for the readers to invest if they are always thinking that a particular scenario will be ret-conned out of existence because of an editorial change or a new hot team coming in to play with the toys.
